Choosing Between an Aircraft GPU and a 400 Hz Test Power Supply?

A request for 400 Hz output can lead to two different engineering paths. One is aircraft ground power. The other is controlled power for laboratory, production or component testing.

For aircraft ground operation, ACSOON reviews the aircraft voltage system, required capacity, connector, interlock, cable arrangement, operating location and service duty. The installation may be fixed or mobile, and the enclosure and cable-handling scope depend on the site.

For a test-power application, the review focuses on the device under test, the required output range, connection method, test points, sequence, control interface, measurement and protection. A test bench may need functions that are not part of a standard ground-power workflow.

The difference is not the frequency alone. It is the complete operating system around the 400 Hz output. A GPU may require an aviation connector and ground-support controls. A laboratory source may require adjustable parameters, stored settings or computer integration. These features must be confirmed for the selected configuration.

Load behavior also matters. Provide continuous power, starting or inrush current, duration, repetition and power factor when available. If the source will perform more than one duty, list each duty separately so the engineering team can review the complete current-time profile.

ACSOON recommends beginning with a simple application statement: power an aircraft on the ground, support MRO activity, test an aircraft component or reproduce a controlled 400 Hz condition. Add the site input, required output, load, connection and environment.

This information allows the project to be routed to the appropriate GPU or AC test-power family. The exact model, options and compliance scope remain subject to the approved technical specification and engineering confirmation.
